Numeracy Week (Secondary)

To celebrate Numeracy Week, a number of Years 7 & 8 students competed in a maths competition which covered topics studied thus far. There was a multiple choice section at the beginning of the competition and a short answer one. After some fierce competition, the final result was a tie between the classes 8B and 8C.

Also, Mr Mustafa Kus, the Year 5 pastoral care teacher presented certificates to the following students in recognition of their outstanding behaviour and consistent attendance during after school pastoral care programs: Faris, Koray, Liban, Kareem, Hamze, Muhammad Ahsan, Ziyad, Mahmoud, Haris, Ali R, Muhammad Adam, Ahyan, Abdirahman, Mustafa, Imaad and Ali S.

Qurban Cup

This year’s Qurban Cup soccer tournament was played by the secondary school boys. The tournament was held to raise money for needy people in countries overseas. The tournament was a great way for the secondary boys to play with each other and do something charitable in the process. The cup consisted of three matches, two semi-finals and a final. The first match was the semi-final which was played by the 7 and 8 boys which the 8s won convincingly 6-0.

The next match was the semi-final which featured the 9s and 10s. This was a real upset of a game because the 10s were defeated. The score was 4-2 and the whole school was ready for what was going to be an epic final. After days of waiting the final arrived and it was amazing. The Year 8s scored first and the crowd went wild. They were on the route for an upset! Unfortunately for them, the Year 9 team soon equalised and it was 1-1 at half time.

The second half started off with some good defending and not many opportunities were taken. Suddenly the ball was kicked long and the Year 8 left winger, Abdullahi A, controlled and finished in style. Everyone went wild - the Year 8 team had taken the lead. With minutes left it seemed as if the win was sealed, but then the 8s were caught off-guard when a beautiful cross finished by Ersan of Year 9 left everyone stunned. The score was tied and it went to a penalty shootout. The Year 9 winger Bayram converted his penalty and set the bar high for the 8s. Abdullahi A stepped up and took a magnificent shot which was stopped by an outstanding save from the opposition goalie. The Year 9 team then missed its penalty and the Year 8 boys had to score to stay in it. Their next penalty was again saved and the Year 9s won. Again the crowd went wild. It was a great match. Overall the cup was a success and a lot of money was given to those in need. All the boys who participated had fun - all for a great cause.
